,
These past two days have been fairly busy. A lot of preperation and meetings and training. Today specifically we went through a driving course so people could be assessed to drive the big 15 passenger vans safely. Those of us who didn't want to drive sat and became these passengers. It was actually a really cool day minus the beginning of it because we had to watch videos about it. it was like driver's training alllll over again.
But then after this, we got to drive all over Denver. It was a little nerve wracking at first knowing that someone else had your life in their hands, but you forgot about it really quick and enjoyed looking around. It is such a great city. I'm falling in love with this area of the country. I wish I could pick up all of you guys from your homes and move them and you right here. You guys would love it too, I know.
Anyway we drove up some high altitude places today, including Red Rock Canyon. These places were so neat to look at. We were very high up. We also saw the ampitheator where a
lot of shows are played. I want to make it to one before we head out. It would be unreal to listen to music amongst the canyons and mountains.
Anyway, it's a Saturday night, and a lot of people are out "living it up" as for me, I decided to stick around here for the evening to catch up with some people and read.
I found my favorite spot here. It's this grassy hill on the outskirts of campus. It has one street light and a big rock underneath. From this spot, You overlook the entire city of Denver all lit up. It's a sight to behold.
I was reading in my spot, and I came across a few lines that really spoke to me. It was a check on me for sure as I read it.
"Being a Christian is not about being one who dedicates his own work to God. Rather it is about God Himself doing the work through a person totally yielded to Him."
It just reminds me what apart from Him, I can do nothing.

Thanks for the great pictures. I miss being there, enen though I have only been a few times. Maybe I have to find some meeting there again. . .
ReplyDeleteDo you remember much of Denver from when we were there before? I have always wanted to see a concert at Red Rock. I will be jealous.
It has been beautiful here the last few days--leaves falling and just warm enough to be crisp.
Abigail, my eyes well up everytime i read another post. Or when i read the ones i have already read a million times.
ReplyDeleteGirl- you are doing and going to continue to do amazing things. I look at this everyday and just smile for you.
I love you more than you know! I am praying for you and for continued encouragement when times get hard.
I wish i could come to the spot like you came to mine.
Love you!

Thinking of you today, and missing you. Mom told me you were walking around downtown yesterday. Did you get to that one multi-story bookstore we went to when we were there? That is where we bought the book "The stinky cheese man," and threw the scratch and sniff away.
ReplyDeleteHi Abigail! It's Tracie posting from North Carolina! Just wanted to let you know I am enjoying your blog anc very proud of you and the work you will be doing...Americorps is lucky to have you. I am glad you have a roommate and friends to help you through the adjustment period, that is one thing I miss the most on my fellowship assignment as I am only one of two people in the entire U.S.! Pretty lonely business down here but I am trying to power through it and get some good work done. I am working on an HIV grant targeting the southern U.S. and there is (sadly) a LOT of work to be done. It is a challenge but I am hopeful it will be worth it. Can't wait to hear more about your adventures and hey, I love that flashy uniform!! At least I get to wear my own clothes down here !:-) Take care, stay safe. We love you!
ReplyDeleteHi Abigail! Sounds like you are fitting in nicely there in Colorado. Don't get too comfortable . . . your family already misses you. Thank you for posting pictures and keeping us updated through this blog. It sounds like you have a good roommate and you are seeing a bit of the beauty of Colorado. Dani wanted to let you know that she lost her first tooth. She was scared to put it under her pillow for the tooth fairy because she was afraid that she would come and take all her teeth away. So, we let her put it in our bedroom. Believe it or not . . . the tooth fairy still came and left a prize under her own pillow. Oh, to be young again.
ReplyDeleteGod bless, take care and stay safe. We love you.
