I leave in 20 days.
woah.
I started this blog in order to keep all of my family and friends (aka, you as you're reading this) up-to-date on my experiences this year. I'm not sure where and when I will have internet access as I'm there, but whenever I do, I will update this hopefully with some fun pictures too.
I named this blog "1 In Process" because I thought it fitting because this year I will be in process. I know I will learn, be stretched, have fun, want to come home, not want to come home, and become more and more the person that God intends me to be.
I'm going to give a quick overview of what Americorp is and what I will be doing...
First off, I should clarify...Americorps is pronounced Ameri-core. not corp. not corps.
although, this has brought on a lot of laughs as people do struggle with the name. A couple of my best friends have made this common error : ]
As I always tell people- this is like the Peace Corps, only in America.
There are many different branches of Americorps, each requiring different things, all with the purpose of meeting critical needs in communities.
My program, NCCC is designed for ages 18-24 to serve for 10 months. There are 5 main campuses around America. I've been placed in Denver, Colorado (perffffect)
I will be there for a month of training, and then "shipped off" to one of the states surrounding Colorado. I will be moved around probably 4 times this year.
I could be doing anything from hurricane relief to helping in inner city schools.
I am way excited to get started. God has placed me perfectly at the Denver campus, because I keep finding out that I know more and more people around that area. It's amazing to me already and I haven't even started.
well, I probably won't update this again until it's about that time to leave, so until then,
abigail: one who's in process
